Minnesota Financial Empowerment Initiative (MNFEI) seeks to deliver high quality financial literacy education at no cost, by matching local skilled financial professionals with volunteer opportunities to engage underserved populations around a variety of financial topics.

Goodwill Employment Services
Career Training and Education Programs- offers job training and customized career support to eliminate barriers to work and independence
Year-round, in-person in St. Paul or virtual, 2 hours per class, Thu or Fri morning
Jeremiah Program
Mission to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time.
January - June, in-person in St. Paul, 75 minutes per class (Wed evenings), female volunteers only please
Learning in Style School
Empowering adult immigrants through education.
September-June, in-person in Minneapolis, 1.5 hours per class, Wed mornings once/month
Summit Academy
Empowering individuals to develop their ability to earn and to become contributing citizens in their communities, as well as economic drivers of the State of Minnesota.
Year-round, in-person in Minneapolis, 2 hours per class, Tuesday mornings
Time Commitment:
Two classroom or virtual sessions over a 4-6 week period
Prep time per session to review materials & lesson plan (30-60 minutes)
Short orientation meeting (15-30 minutes)
Skills/experience:
Familiarity with personal finance topics (5+ years professional experience in finance with certification
preferred, but not required)
Experience presenting to small groups
Sensitivity to different cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences
Willingness and ability to tailor training to meet group’s specific needs and situation

Sessions are built around the FDIC’s Money Smart for Adults Program.

Managing Debt
Savings and Investing
1:1 sessions as needed
MNFEI will provide slide decks, resources for 1:1 sessions, and participant guides/handouts
